Aw Shucks – WegWag Wins Award!

Posted in Equine Issues, Equine Professionals, Media, Publications, Videos, World Equestrian Games with tags , on September 30, 2010 by martimu

Dr. Pearec Lyons congratulates Marti McGinnis for receiving an A+ Award for her video

No way! It appears as though yours truly, your very own little WegWag seems to have won the A+  award in the broadcasting category for a video I created to help grow excitement for the WEG!  Alltech – the title sponsor of the whole big horse party – initiated a set of awards to help kick start coverage throughout the global equine news community. Entries were open to members of American Horse Publications (AHP) and the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists (IAEJ).

They asked a team of independent experts to evaluate the entries and it seems the video shown right here in our little down-home blog took top honors for the first set of winners! (2 sets one pre-WEG, the other to come or post-WEG). This video features footage I’ve taken over the several years I’ve been playing horses with my friends here so I like to think this win reflects more about them, what they’ve taught me and the love we all share for our equine friends and teachers.

I sorta feel like I just won a gold medal. 🙂

So here it is again for those who missed it the first time:

Horse Radio Network Free WEG Coverage on iTunes!

Posted in Media, World Equestrian Games with tags , on September 30, 2010 by martimu

The Horse Radio Network offers WEG coverage daily wrap up every evening recording at 7pm local (EST) time – then available on demand after 9pm each evening on iTunes. You can subscribe and get the downloads as they’re available thereafter. Very fun. Want to see the voices in action? Visit their recording booth at the downtown Lexington International Festival of the Horse.

Speaking of that festival – it is coupled with FREE events in area downtown parks and venues. Called Spotlight Lexington there’s music and snacks and other delights. Their website seems to be experiencing some technical difficulties at this writing – but trust me it’s all fun and FREE!

WegWag is Ready for the World

Posted in Events, Horse Lovers, Horses Elsewhere, Media, World Equestrian Games with tags , , , on June 29, 2010 by martimu

As I write this we’re now less than three months away from the Opening Ceremonies for the World Equestrian Games here in Lexington Kentucky. I formed this blog about two years ago in anticipation of these games and in the interim have been keeping abreast of some of the activities as they’ve been unfolding towards this happy time. I’ve been volunteering for test events and becoming involved on the sidelines wherever I could. I’ve seen some meltdowns from within the event structure and been privy to tales of even more. But I’m purposefully keeping off to the side so I don’t get caught up in the vortex swirling around the high anticipation surrounding these games. In fact I’ve found that what I’m really interested in is how these events are going to impact horses themselves and those who love them. So today I’m posting a video that speaks to the women who follow my posts who might turn to this blog and my videos for topics that might otherwise not be visible during the hoopla, pomp and circumstance. I love you fellow horse appreciators and I do all of this for the both of us.

Lexington Prepares for a World Equestrian PARTY! (click to enlarge)

Lexington, KY. From June June 17 to 19 editors, writers, photographers, publishers and all other manner of people involved in the world of equine publishing through the auspices of the American Horse Publications association, gathered to share ideas and experience some of the delights that the Bluegrass offers its visitors. Below is a sneak preview of our tour to some of the highlights of the area. If you’re coming to Lexington anytime soon you may want to make a note of these places – they’re all open to the public!

The giants from within the equine publishing industry are a fun-loving group. If you read Western Horseman, Equus, TrailBlazer, The Blood Horse or any other of the array of magazine geared to your riding discipline don’t be surprised if articles pop up based on fun day these people just experienced in Lexington.

Times are changing for the publishing industry and we’re finding we have to be as adaptable to these changes as an off track thoroughbred has to be in his or her new riding career. Look for a name change for this organization to reflect the world of new media opening up to us all. Exciting new approaches and ways of connecting will be happening all throughout your favorite riding disciplines and their publications. Look for more Tweets, Facebook pages and other new media connections than ever before! Did I mention YouTube, Vimeo and Flickr? Yep – these are FUN times to be a horse lover for sure and your favorite publications are on top of it!
