A Breed Apart

Within the world of thoroughbred racing it’s worth noting that a significant majority of owners and trainers consider their equine partners to be mostly a commodity, a living money-earner; in a word livestock. Not so my friend Danialle Obert who has a small thoroughbred farm in Versailles, KY — the heart of the bluegrass region. She dotes on her horses and considers each one a contributing member of her tiny empire. She helps them maximize their potential value by treating them as individuals, horses and money-makers — in that order. Below is a movie short I made during 2007 showing Danielle campaigning Secret Melody at River Downs. The thing with Danielle is, she makes happy endings.
